A Halloween party in eastern Texas turned violent when one man was killed, and nine others were injured following reports of gunfire, police said.

Just before midnight on Saturday at an event center in Texarkana, almost 180 miles outside of Dallas, police reported that the shooting occurred.

They shared that "at least a couple hundred people" were in attendance in a press release. The party appeared to have been scheduled from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to posts on Facebook.

Police reported that when they arrived, "they encountered a large number of people running from the building and several inside suffering from gunshot wounds."

The 20-year-old man who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital, and he was pronounced dead, the police said in a press release. His identity has not been released at the moment.

Authorities reported that the other nine victims who were shot did not need severe medical treatment, as their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, according to police.

An investigation is ongoing as to what occurred leading up to the shooting, but police think it may have been a dispute between partygoers. The party appeared to have been scheduled from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to posts on Facebook.

Those with information are asked to contact the Texarkana Area Police Department at 903-798-3116.
