If you see someone glued to their phone lately, they might be in deep with the latest reality TV show that’s… not a reality TV show.
You see, a group of TikTokers are aboard a cruise ship right now. They’re recording the sights, the mishaps, and the drama they’re stirring up on board Serenade of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean vessel taking passengers on a nine-month trip around the world called the “Ultimate World Cruise.”
Passengers set sail from Miami Dec. 10 and are expected to get off in September after visiting locations such as Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, the Great Wall of China and Petra. As of Saturday, the hashtag #RoyalCaribbeanUltimateWorldCruise had more than 25 million views on TikTok.
According to TODAY, people are following the passengers’ exploits as if they were a show.
“A corner of TikTok has been closely tracking activity on the cruise ship, called Serenade of the Seas, with many users pointing out that so much can happen within the span that it’s at sea, including new relationships, falling outs, pregnancy, death and more,” said the outlet.
For example, TikToker @whimsysoul (Kara Harms) make a bingo card for all of the people following the cruise passengers’ stories.
“It’s been fun to kind of just follow what truly feels like a TikTok reality show,” said Harms, who is the founder of a lifestyle travel website, according to NPR.
For those who haven’t been keeping up, TODAY compiled a list of some of the major events so far. They include the first port being canceled due to inclement weather, flooding on the deck, a sighting of Antarctica, and the addition of an influencer to stir up drama.
