Paying more for an Uber or Lyft ride? It's because of a driver shortage caused by COVID pandemic

If you're paying more for an Uber or Lyft ride and waiting longer to get picked up it's because of a driver shortage caused by the pandemic.

One reason for the shortage is because many potential drivers are making more money from pandemic unemployment.

Chris Gerace, a contributor for "The Rideshare Guy" blog, and says "Also many drivers went from driving rideshare over to food delivery or shopping like Instacart, different gig apps."

He tells KNX 1070 News other drivers simply found other jobs and career opportunities.

He says Uber and Lyft are addressing the shortage and planning to offer more incentives, like bonuses and possibly higher pay to lure drivers back.
