A 45-year-old pizza delivery driver died over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend while attempting to make a delivery at a home in Indiana.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in Connersville, located near the Ohio state line about half-way between Dayton and Indianapolis.
The Connersville Police Department said officers and emergency personnel responded to a report of an injured and unconscious person. When they arrived at the home, officers found a man who had fallen through what appeared to be a collapsed front porch.
The man, identified as William Fields, "was pinned by heavy debris and motionless," according to police. Firefighters extracted Fields from the wreckage and attempted life saving measures. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Fields was working as a delivery driver for Pizza King and was delivering an order to the home when the porch collapsed.
Sgt. Clint Brown said Fields was known by many in the neighborhood.
"You ordered Pizza King, you almost expected William would be the guy to bring it to you," Brown told WISH-TV.
Brown said the entire incident is just a tragic accident.
"At this time, the department has determined this to be an accident and there is no on-going criminal investigation," police said in a statement. "We send our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Mr. Fields, as well as, the employees of Pizza King during this difficult time."
