A video released this week by Southwest Airlines shows a lost and found case that goes above and beyond.
When a passenger on one of the airline’s flights left their phone at the gate, a person who had been chatting with them was able to get it back to them – even though the plane was already boarded. With the help of operations agents and the plane’s captain, the phone was slipped through the cock pit window.
Chris Perry, a spokesperson for Southwest Airlines, told CNN that the person who found the phone knew which flight its owner had boarded. When the operations agents realized it was fully boarded, they contacted the flight captain.
“The captain immediately suggested that the ramp agents on the ground try to jump the phone up to him so he could return it to the customer,” said Perry.
A ramp agent can be seen jumping up in the video to hand the phone to the captain through a cockpit window. Although the video was posted on Nov. 13 – World Kindness Day – CNN said it is unclear when the footage was taken.
According to the Transportation Security Administration losing items at the airport is common. In fact, the administration estimates that 90,000 to 100,000 items are left at security checkpoints annually.
