Today, President Biden is visiting Uvalde, Texas, for his first trip to the state following the mass shooting that left 19 elementary students and two teachers dead on Tuesday.
The president will be accompanied by first lady Dr. Jill Biden, as they will be meeting with relatives of people killed in the shooting at Robb Elementary. The two also have meetings scheduled with the community and religious leaders.
"I'll be heading to Uvalde, Texas, to speak to those families. As I speak, those parents are literally preparing to bury their children, in the United States of America, bury their children. There is too much violence, too much fear, too much grief," Biden said while speaking Saturday at the University of Delaware's commencement ceremony.
The president made a similar trip to Buffalo, New York, after a recent mass shooting at a supermarket in that community which left 10 dead and is said to be racially motivated.
Since the shooting, the president and other elected officials have called for an increase in gun laws that would stop 18-year-olds, like the Uvalde gunman Salvador Ramos, from being able to buy assault-style weapons.
Other legislation being proposed includes universal background checks for all weapons sales.
The Bidens will attend Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church after visiting the memorial outside of Robb Elementary.
