An investigation has been launched into the death of a Texas man whose body was found inside his storage unit by a private investigator who was searching for him, Arlington Police shared.
Debony Maffett II, 27, was identified as the man found by the private investigator, Arlington Police shared.
After making the discovery, the private investigator contacted local law enforcement, and upon their arrival, they confirmed he was deceased at the Public Storage location.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to confirm Maffett’s identity and his cause of death, police shared.
Maffett’s family had reported him missing on March 27, but they shared that they did not think he was in danger. He was reportedly last seen on March 23 after a shift at the convenience store where he worked.
Police had been unsuccessful in finding Maffett, resulting in entering him into a missing persons database.
The family hired a private investigator to help search for Maffett. The investigator discovered he purchased a storage unit and might have been living out of it, police shared.
It was then that the investigator found Maffett’s body on top of a sleeping bag inside the storage locker.
Police are actively investigating the situation but shared that at this time, they were not aware of any signs of foul play and have no evidence pointing to what could have caused his death.
