On Saturday evening, protestors supporting abortion rights gathered outside the homes of Supreme Court Justices, following the leaked draft opinion which would overturn Roe vs. Wade.
About 100 demonstrators were hoisting signs and chanting pro-choice slogans outside the Maryland homes of Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Videos of the protests showed the group chanting, “The whole world is watching!” and “My body, my choice.”
If the judges and their families were home during the protests is not known, but they were ordered to disperse by police as they made their way between the judge’s residences, Bloomberg reported.
Some protestors like Lacie Wooten-Holway shared that they had no other options but to gather.
“The time for civility is over, man,” Wooten-Holway, 39, told Bloomberg. “Being polite doesn’t get you anywhere.”
However, not everyone agreed with the protests, including one man passing by who shared with The Washington Post that he thought they were in bad taste.
“I think you vote, and you expand the court,” the man told the post. “You don’t go to a guy’s house.”
The draft opinion was released in a report by Politico on Monday, showing that five justices, including Kavanaugh, had cast preliminary votes to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
As for Chief Justice Roberts, it is unclear which way he planned to vote on the majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito. However, Roberts has ordered an investigation into the leak, which he called an “egregious breach of trust.”
The protests are not the first, nor will they be the last, as thousands gathered on Tuesday across the nation in support of abortion rights.
Groups also gathered outside the Supreme Court on Mother's day, holding signs and calling for abortion rights.
