Following reports of increased carjacking in major U.S. cities, Ring recently announced that it will offer a “car cam” that starts shipping out next month.

Customers can re-qualify for the camera now, which is being advertised on the Ring website and Amazon for $199.99. According to Amazon, it will go up to $249.99 after the end of the month.

“Take up to 12 months to pay with no interest and no late fees,” said Ring, which is known for its doorbell cameras.

Ring describes the camera as a dual-facing dashboard security camera featuring HD cameras equipped with Night Vision detect. It is designed to give customers “a better picture of suspicious activity” around their vehicle.

“Cars aren’t just expensive investments, they’re a lifeline for many, with 76% of U.S. adult commuters depending on their vehicle to get to and from work Protecting our vehicles is top of mind,” said a Jan. 5 blog post from Ring Chief Technology Officer Josh Roth. He said that 66% of car owners say they’re concerned about their car’s security and that one car is stolen every 39 seconds in the U.S.

“You’ll also get real-time alerts when motion is detected and check in anytime with Live View and Two-Way Talk in the Ring App when your Car Cam is connected to your home wifi,” from the car cam, Ring explained.

Prior to purchasing, interested consumers should check that their car’s OBD-II port is in a safe location for installation and Ring provided a list of vehicles it would not be compatible with. For now, the camera will only be shipped to addresses in the 50 U.S. states and pre-orders will ship Feb. 15.
