SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers struck a tentative deal on Wednesday, putting an end to a 118-day strike by the actors’ union.
“We are thrilled & proud to tell you that today your TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee voted unanimously to approve a tentative agreement with the AMPTP,” the union shared in a statement. “As of 12:01 a.m. PT on Nov. 9, our strike is officially suspended & all picket locations are closed. We will be in touch in the coming days with information about celebration gatherings around the country.”
The union went on to say that it “ achieved a deal of extraordinary scope that includes ‘above-pattern’ minimum compensation increases, unprecedented provisions for consent and compensation that will protect members from the threat of AI, and for the first time establishes a streaming participation bonus.”
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher told CNN on Thursday morning, “I feel like it’s such a good contract.”
“It’s not over, it’s never with contract negations,” she said. “But it is historic and we got so much. So much important stuff and improvements financially in so many different places that we all in our negotiating committee slept much better last night than we have in months because we’ve all felt the weight of responsibility in this strike…”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement saying the tentative agreement would impact “nearly every part” of the local economy.
“Now, we must lean in on local production to ensure that our entertainment industry rebounds stronger than ever and our economy is able to get back on its feet,” she said.
Burbank Mayor Konstantine Anthony, who is also a SAG-AFTRA member, said local businesses struggled during the strike and that they’re ready to get back to work.
“As soon as this deal goes through and we sign it, we're gonna get right back to doing everything that we do in Burbank to keep the economy rolling,” he said. “We are very business-friendly, very studio-friendly and that hasn't changed. It is an excellent part partnership that we have with our production teams out there in the city and we're looking to get right back to work.
SAG-AFTRA Board will meet on Friday on whether or not to approve the contract.
