A store in Great Britain marketing what looks like Cadbury Easter eggs as 'Gesture eggs' had some up in arms about the alleged removal of Easter from 'Easter eggs.'

But never fear as it appeared to be a misunderstanding, or at least not a marketing effort backed by candy giant Cadbury, known partly for its creamy delicious Cadbury Eggs.

Internet fact-checking site Snopes had this to say about the alleged name change to 'Gesture Eggs.' They marked the rumor as 'false.'

"A store independent from Cadbury, but licensed to sell its products marketed Cadbury Easter eggs as "gesture eggs," ... But the candy manufacturer said it did not endorse the sales initiative and was not making the alleged name change," wrote Mondelez International, owner of Cadbury, in a statement to the BBC.

"The Easter egg has been saved," WWL's Newell Normand said.

The head of public policy at a place called Christian Concern, was still, well, concerned about the removal of the word 'Easter' from the display.

"It seems very odd that someone would want to try and separate Easter from eggs. Once you do that, you lose the meaning of the eggs," Tim Dieppe told the BBC.

The maker of Cadbury wasn't having it.

"Cadbury has used the word Easter in our marketing and communications for over 100 years and continue to do so with our new Easter product range. To claim anything otherwise is factually incorrect.

"We have contacted Freshstore, the independent retailer who put up this poster in a very limited number of stores, and we understand they will be taking these posters down," they added.
