Picking a baby name is a difficult task for any parent, what with all the concerns about which relative or close friend to honor, whether to go with an original name, and which one is least likely to become an unflattering rhyme.
Of course, the names parents are using the most has changed quite a bit over time, and now a new study has found the baby names that have gained and lost popularity over the last decade.
Axios recently shared the results of a study that showed the baby names in America that had the largest gains and losses in popularity from 2012 to 2022. Using data from the U.S. Social Security Administration, the study was able to find the top five boy and girl names in each category, and by what percentage the name has increased or decreased.
According to the study, the top gaining boy names were Theo, Maverick, Walker, Theodore, and Brooks. For girls, the top names were Everleigh, Everly, Nova, Luna and Emilia.
On the other side, common names from the past have been trending down in recent years. The names that have lost the most popularity include Gavin, Brandon, Blake, Tyler and Brayden for boys, and Alexa, Alexis, Makayla, Alyssa and Lauren for girls. Thanks to this study, picking a baby name should be slightly easier now.
