As supporters of former President Donald Trump attempted to lay siege to the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021, one of the biggest supporters of Trump’s false claims of a stolen election – one of the heroes, one would think, of the angry mob – was nowhere to be found.

Despite his staunch support of “The Donald,” Sen. Ted Cruz spent his time during the riot amid stacks of folding chairs in a supply closet.

Perhaps the biggest revelation though is that this detail was revealed by Cruz himself in his new book Justice Corrupted.

“In the fog of the confusion, it was difficult to tell exactly what was happening," Cruz writes. "We were informed that a riot had broken out and that rioters were attempting to breach the building.”

Cruz writes that he was the target of quite a bit of ire from his fellow politicians in Congress who accused him of fueling the rioters’ fire by spreading the “lies” about Trump’s loss being illegitimate.

So Cruz writes that he gathered his allies together in a supply closet to discuss their next move.

“While we waited for the Capitol to be secured, I assembled our coalition in a back room -- really, a supply closet with stacked chairs -- to discuss what we should do next," Cruz writes.

He added that he “vehemently disagreed” with the members of his coalition who argued he should change his stance, adding, “I urged my colleagues that the course of action we were advocating was the right and principled one.”

Cruz’s book hits stores today.
