Legislation keeping Texas kids from attending sexually-explicit performances has received the approval of the State House and will now head to the state’s Senate chambers.
However, while KRLD’s Chris Fox says the original Senate bill was designed to ban children from drag shows, the revised legislation would instead do much more.
As it is written, the bill now bans sexually oriented performances at a commercial enterprise in the presence of a child.
House Democrats have said that the legislation will stop kids from attending shows that include sexually provocative dancing by artists like Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, or Lady Gaga.
The Texas Senate will now have to approve the changes to the bill before it heads to the governor’s desk.
Other states have had anti-drag show bills blocked by the courts, which resulted in state Rep. Matt Shaheen removing the term drag show from Senate Bill 12 to help it go through.
