More than eight years ago, a Texas teenager went missing, leaving his family and loved ones searching for him for almost a decade. While their searches didn’t lead to his discovery, their prayers were answered when the now 25-year-old turned up alive on Saturday.

Rudy Farias, of Houston, was the subject of a nationwide search when he went missing on March 6, 2015. But on Saturday, he was “located safe,” according to the Texas Center for the Missing.

Farias is currently recovering in the hospital, and his disappearance is still a mystery, though one that will hopefully be answered soon.

In 2015, Farias took his two dogs for a walk near his home, authorities shared. While both dogs eventually returned home without their leashes, the then 18-year-old never showed up.

Family members shared that he had been suffering from depression after losing his older brother in a motorcycle accident years prior to his disappearance.

“He watched his best friend die right in front of him,” Brenda Paradise, a private investigator hired by the Farias family, said in April 2015. “His brother was his best friend in the world. He’s just gone through so much more than anyone his age ever should.”

Houston police didn’t suspect foul play in his disappearance, but friends and family were still concerned for his safety.

It still remains unclear why he left or where he has been.
