After spending the entire beginning of her life in a hospital, a baby girl has been cleared to go home after 694 days.
Born in May of 2019, Valentina Garnetti finally left University of Michigan's CS Mott Children's Hospital after having stayed there since her birth. She was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, Good Morning America reports.
The condition, which caused the left side of her heart to be under developed, led to a multitude of issues which required hospital care. She underwent 6 operations during her time in the hospital.
Her mother, Francesca, explained on Valentina's GoFundMe page, "On top of her major surgeries, she had complication after complication including strokes, seizures, anaphylactic reactions, and being transferred to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for 9 days to have a life-saving procedure done before being flown back to Michigan."
The donation page had raised just about $5,000 by Sunday.
The family explained that there will still be more procedures down the road, but they are thrilled to welcome their baby girl home to play with her siblings, Gianna, 5, and Adriana, 1.
"She's the happiest baby in the whole entire world, despite everything she's been through," Francesca told Good Morning America. "She's the greatest joy. She loves everyone ... She just loves her life, genuinely."
During her time home so far, Valentina has been taking in her new surroundings. "She just looks around and you can see the awe and wonder," the mother told WXYZ. "It's just all the new things she's never seen before."
"It's so amazing. I mean, I thought some days it would never happen and so now that it finally is here it's like a dream come true," she continued.
