While speaking at an event in Nevada on Saturday, former President Donald Trump took time to address his main rival for the GOP nominee, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and why he thinks he’s “highly overrated.”
“I’m not a big fan of his, and he’s highly overrated. He’s highly overrated,” Trump said while speaking to the crowd at a GOP volunteer event in Las Vegas. “Remember, he’s the one that wanted to cut Social Security. He’s the one that wanted to raise the minimum age, and he voted on this.”
The former president also criticized DeSantis for backpedaling when his plans don’t get support.
“This isn’t just. And the one thing you have to remember when a politician comes out with an initial plan, and then they go into a corner because they’re getting killed because he’s getting killed,” Trump said. “Well, he also has no personality. That helps, right?”
Trump addressed the upcoming election during his quick speech, saying it was the most important “in the history of our country.”
Before his event on Saturday, Trump took to TruthSocial, claiming that DeSantis was “desperately trying to get out” of the 2024 race and that he was “just wasting time!”
“Ron DeSanctimonious is desperately trying to get out of the Presidential race while at the same time, saving face for 2028, where he has been greatly damaged,” Trump said in his post.
DeSantis has spoken about the criticism he’s faced, as of late, blaming media outlets for his dropping poll numbers.
“Well, I think, if you look at the people like the corporate media, who are they going after?” DeSantis said The Hill reported. “Who do they not want to be the nominee? They’re going after me.”
The first major hurdle for those in the Republican race is coming early next year, as the Iowa GOP announced that the caucuses are scheduled for Jan. 15, 2024.
