Former President Donald Trump appears to be taking a page out of his competitor’s playbook as he has joined TikTok, posting for the first time on the platform he once sought to ban.
Trump’s first video showed him at this weekend’s UFC event and included shots of him with Dana White, the CEO of the fighting league, and the crowd at the event.
“The president is now on TikTok,” White says before Trump says, “It’s my honor.”
The video has since blown up on the social media platform that Congress is currently working to ban if its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, doesn’t sell to a United States buyer.
As of Monday at noon, Trump had amassed 3.9 million followers, and his sole video has 65.5 million views with more than 3 million likes.
Trump, who often attends UFC events, attended UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey. The former president was met with cheers just days after being convicted in his New York hush money trial on all 34 felony counts.
The decision to join TikTok follows in the footsteps of President Joe Biden, whose campaign also joined the platform despite speaking about its potential danger.
While in office, Trump discussed banning the app, and Biden signed legislation earlier this year that would force a sale of the app or shut it down domestically.
Still, both men seem to see a pathway to America’s younger generation through the app, which has quickly become a top competitor in the social media world.
Trump had already changed his support for the app before joining, saying earlier this year that banning the app would only help Facebook, which he says is the “true enemy of the people.”
