On Sunday, President Joe Biden announced that he would no longer seek a second term, dropping out of the 2024 presidential election and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to take over the nominee.
In response to the news, former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, took to his social media site Truth Social to offer his thoughts on the news.
“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump went on to say that Biden was protected by the media and his doctor, doubling down that he was not fit to serve as president.
“All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t- And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.
Biden has been in the spotlight since he faced Trump on the debate stage last month. After his weak showing, the number of Democrats who have called on him to step down has continued to mount.
Now, Biden says he will step aside and focus on finishing out his term.
"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," Biden shared.
