Donald Trump's lead may be slipping.

A new Emerson College Polling survey of GOP primary voters after last week's debate in Milwaukee shows the former president with 50% of the vote.

It's a six-point drop from the 56% Trump had in Emerson's last poll from before the debate.

Emerson says this is "the lowest support to date for the former President in Emerson national polls."

Many of Trump’s opponents seem to have experienced a bump from their pre-debate numbers though, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis jumping from 10% to 12%, former Vice President Mike Pence going from 3% to 7% and former Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley leaping from 2% to 7%.

“While Trump saw a slight dip in support, the question from this poll is whether this is a blip for Trump or if the other Republican candidates will be able to rally enough support to be competitive for the caucus and primary season,” Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling said. in a statement.

Despite the decrease, the poll shows a plurality of voters (48%) say Trump not participating in the debate makes no difference on their decision whether or not to support him for president in 2024, while 30% say it makes them less likely, and 22% more likely.

According to the poll, 57% of Republican Primary voters say they will definitely vote for the candidate they’ve already selected, while 43% say there is a chance they could change their mind and vote for someone else.

When presented with a Republican Primary ballot test with only the debate stage candidates, the poll shows 30% of voters would support DeSantis, followed by Vivek Ramaswamy at 25%, Pence at 16%, and Haley at 12%. Chris Christie (8%), Tim Scott (5%), Asa Hutchinson (3%) and Doug Burgum (3%) round out the field.

“When Trump is removed from the GOP ballot test, his voters split between DeSantis at 32% and Ramaswamy at 29%, with Pence at 16% — which suggests if Trump was to not run, a race between DeSantis and Ramaswamy could take shape,” Kimball said.

Trump decided to skip the debate stage in Milwaukee, instead being interviewed by former FOX News host Tucker Carlson in a 46 minute video that was posted to Carlson’s X account.
