There's an encouraging update on a puppy that was found abandoned and struggling in the woods in Beaver County.

On January 19, a four-month-old puppy was found emaciated, soaked in rain and urine and near death with extreme anemia.

The Beaver County Humane Society medical team quickly got to work to help save the young pup.

“Through it all, this little guy had a tail wag, nose bump and lick for anyone that came to say hello,” the Humane Society said in an update. “His ability to show love when he was in such obvious distress was heartwarming.”

After seeing the remarkable recovery of McKees Rocks native Damar Hamlin after a sudden on-field heart attack, the Humane Society decided to name the puppy, Hamlin.

Thanks to a blood transfusion, carefully re-feeding him and other care, Hamlin is “able to walk short distances.”

The Human Society adds it will be a “very gradual” process for Hamlin’s full recovery.

Thanks to the donations they received, the reward of $500 for information on how Hamlin was left in the woods in the first place, has been increased to $2,000.

Investigators are looking into one report that may be related to the case.

The BCHS says Hamlin’s life was saved by a blood donation from a doggie donor. If you would like to have your pet donate blood send a message to info.pitt@bluepearlvet.com

While they are no longer accepting donations for Hamlin, you can donate to the BCHS “TLC Fund or Humane Investigations Funds.
