More than $4 million was raised on Monday evening for Vice President Kamala Harris during a “White Dudes for Harris” call that featured several celebrities.
Over 190,000 participants joined the call on Monday as more continue to support Harris in her bid for the Democratic nominee and the White House. The call was put together by Democratic organizers who are not affiliated with the Harris campaign.
Among the names featured on the call were several well-known celebrities, including Mark Hamill, Josh Gad, Jeff Bridges, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lance Bass, Bradley Whitford, Josh Groban, Paul Scheer, and more.
Also joining the call were a number of potential vice presidential picks for Harris, including Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.
During the Call, Buttigieg said that the “vibes right now are incredible” while discussing the energy behind Harris and her campaign.
He then went on to take a shot at former President Donald Trump and his Republican running mate, Sen. JD Vance (OH).
“Real men respect women, their decisions, and their careers. And it’s pretty clear that Donald Trump and JD Vance don’t,” Buttigieg added.
Whiteford joked that there was a “variety of whiteness” on the Zoom call in what he said was a “rainbow of beige.”
LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and filmmaker JJ Abrams both pledged to match $50,000 in donations to Harris’s campaign.
The call was the latest effort by Democrats to mobilize men, a demographic they have lost in previous elections. The Pew Research Center reports that in 2016, Trump won white men by 30 points, and in 2020, he won them by 17.
An Economist/YouGov poll conducted earlier this month found that 47% of men said they would vote for Trump, and 39% said they would vote for Harris.
