LA County officials now hope to get 80 percent of residents 16 and older vaccinated by mid to late July.
The initial goal was to get it done by the end of June.
But that's being pushed back a few weeks amid falling demand for vaccinations.
It's unclear how many people need to get jabbed to hit "herd immunity" but county officials assume "it's probably somewhere around 80%."
"We're currently getting about 400 vaccinations into the arms of LA County residents each week," says Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer.
That includes second-dose shots.
Ferrer says we're still more than 2 million first-dose shots away from getting 80% of county residents jabbed.
"We certainly have dropped fairly significantly in demand but I also want to note that many of our smaller sites are doing quite well," she says.
Demand may be going up soon now that the FDA has authorized the Pfizer vaccine for use in kids 12 to 15 years old.
Ferrer says planning for this expanded eligibility has been underway for weeks. The focus is on getting kids vaccinated at school or in their doctor's office.
