What is gender-affirming care and why does it matter?

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Across the country, Republican lawmakers have introduced legislation that restricts transgender health care for minors, taking a medical decision and making it political.

But what is gender-affirming care? And what are the impacts of these bans that states are trying to implement?

To answer those questions and more, KCBS Radio's Margie Shafer and Eric Thomas spoke with Elana Redfield, federal policy director at the Williams Institute at UCLA and author of a recent research report on the prohibiting of gender-affirming medical care for youth, on "Ask An Expert."
