NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- First lady Melania Trump's chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, resigned Wednesday amid the siege on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Trump -- but she wasn't alone in her decision for long.
White House deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews announced she was also resigning immediately, as did White House social secretary Rickie Niceta.
"I was honored to serve in the Trump administration and proud of the policies we enacted," Matthews said in a statement. "As someone who worked in the halls of Congress, I was deeply disturbed by what I saw today. I'll be stepping down from my role effective immediately. Our nation needs a peaceful transfer of power."
Grisham, the former White House communications director and press secretary, submitted her resignation Wednesday, a White House official told CNN.
Her resignation is effective immediately.
Grisham began working with Donald Trump in 2015 when he was a presidential candidate. After Trump's win, she was deputy press secratry under Sean Spicer.
Then in 2017, she began working for the first lady.
The first lady's office nor Grisham has yet to comment.
