A Chicago woman caused a multiple hour delay at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Monday when she allegedly claimed that her luggage contained a bomb.
Upon arriving at her JetBlue terminal on Sept. 6, Marina Verbitsky, 46, was informed that she and her family were too late to board their flight. Verbitsky explained to an airline employee that it was important for them to board as her son had school the next day, but when she was once again denied the Chicago woman became enraged, The Washington Post reported.
According to a police statement obtained by Fox News, Verbitsky began berating JetBlue employees with profanities before blurting out that her luggage contained a bomb.
Airline employees sprang into action, delaying the plane’s takeoff and evacuating passengers from the flight to allow authorities to scour the aircraft, however, they found nothing.
Verbitsky was immediately arrested following the claim and now faces a charge of false reporting concerning planting a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Verbitsky's bail was set at $10,000, which she posted on Tuesday. She has also been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
