A woman whose SUV became stuck on a flight of stairs outside a police station says she was only following directions given to her by GPS.
The incident happened on Saturday outside of the Portland Police Department in southern Maine.
Authorities say the 26-year-old woman drove her vehicle through the police department's garage and continued across a pedestrian plaza. She then tried to maneuver down an outside staircase where her SUV became lodged between the railings, according to police.
The woman blamed her GPS for giving bad directions, according to police. Officers who responded to the crash, however, didn't quite buy her story.
"She said she was following her GPS instructions but responding officers felt it was her excessive blood alcohol level," the Portland Police Department posted on Facebook, along with photos of the crash.
No injuries were reported.
"We are fortunate that she didn't strike anyone and this ended with just a small amount of property damage," police said, adding: "Please don't drink and drive."
The woman was issued a summons for was issued a summons for operating under the influence.
