A Wisconsin woman was found guilty Wednesday of sexually abusing and mutilating her former boyfriend, according to a report in the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
This February, WBBM reported that 25-year-old Taylor Schabusiness attacked her own attorney, Quinn Jolly, in the courtroom. She was arrested approximately one year prior for the murder of 24-year-old Shad Thyrion.
Thyrion’s mother fond her son’s severed head in a bucket. Police reported that Schabusiness and Thyrion “had consumed illegal drugs and had sex,” before she used a knife to decapitate him. She pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
“This case is a puzzling, unclear collection of facts,” said her defense attorney, Christopher Froelich. He added “was this an accidental death? Was there intent to kill Shad Thryion? It’s foggy, it’s cloudy, it’s hard to figure out.”
Prosecutors Caleb Saunders and David Lasee argued that the case was simple.
“This is bizarre. This is strange. This is unnatural, but in no way is it unclear,” said Lasee, Brown County district attorney.
A jury of nine women and seven men was assembled for her trial and four were selected as alternates. This jury found her guilty of homicide, third-degree sexual abuse and mutilating a corpse. They began deliberating about 4:50 p.m. and returned to the courtroom within an hour at around 5:40 p.m.
“Bailiffs escorted Schabusiness from the courtroom in handcuffs,” said the Press-Gazette. According to WFRV, the trial moved into Phase II Thursday morning.
