
The world's population is set to top 8 billion as we head into 2024.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the global population increased by 75 million over the past year, a growth rate just under 1%.
The projected world population on Jan. 1, 2024 is 8,019,876,189, the Census Bureau said Thursday.
Meantime, as Americans prepare to ring in the new year, the U.S. population is expected to stand at 335,893,238 on Jan. 1, 2024. This represents a growth rate of 0.53% over the year, an increase of 1.75 million people, according to the data.
Looking ahead to 2024, the U.S. is expected to experience one birth every 9 seconds and one death every 9.5 seconds, the Census Bureau estimated. Additionally, net international migration is expected to add one person to the U.S. population every 28.3 seconds. The combination of births, deaths and net international migration is expected to increase the U.S. population by one person every 24.2 seconds.
During 2024, 4.3 births and 2 deaths are expected worldwide every second, according to the Census Bureau's estimate.
