SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – It's only been a few days since Sen. Dianne Feinstein announced that she would not be running for reelection in the seat she’s held since 1992, but for some, the race is already on.

On Thursday night, Representative Adam Schiff out of Burbank, California, held a campaign event at Manny's in the Mission District.

The event quickly grew rather crowded, with people spilling out the doors and large windows to the sidewalk outside.

"Thank you all for coming out and my apologies to folks outside," said Schiff. "I'm going to try to come outside later on and have a chance to chat with anyone who wasn’t able to get in."

For some, Schiff is a Democratic rockstar and a solid choice to replace stalwart Feinstein in the senator role.

Schiff is perhaps best known for leading the first impeachment attempt of former President Donald Trump and being a part of the committee investigating the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.

"The argument that I made was – this man doesn’t know right from wrong," said Schiff of Trump. "This man cannot tell the truth, this man is fundamentally indecent."

There is still more than a year before the election, but many feel that it’s not too early to start paying attention to candidates and their messages.

For some, Feinstein's retirement is seen as welcome news, an opportunity to welcome new blood to the party.

Rep. Katie Porter has also announced her intention to run, and Rep. Barbara Lee has submitted the paperwork needed to run.
