Another day, another altercation for Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s circle - and this one involves East Bay Congressman Eric Swalwell.
The Hill’s Scott Wong tweeted early Friday that a spokesperson for the controversial lawmaker, Nick Dyer, told Swalwell on the House floor: "Biden says you can take off your mask."
According to Dyer, Swalwell engaged, got in his face and replied: "You don’t tell me what to f-king do!" Wong clarified that he wasn’t close enough to hear Swalwell’s response himself, getting the substance of it from Dyer afterwards.
Swalwell later confirmed the altercation on Twitter.
The scuffle followed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's announcement on Thursday pertaining to updated masking guidelines for fully vaccinated Americans and the president’s subsequent press conference on the matter, celebrating a step forward in the fight against COVID-19.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has declined to lift the House’s mask mandate, even with the CDC’s guidance, saying it’s not yet clear how many lawmakers and staff members have received COVID-19 vaccines.
Just Thursday, Pelosi said an ethics complaint could be filed against Greene for a tussle with New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Reporters with The Washington Post said they witnessed Greene chase after Ocasio-Cortez as she exited the House chamber late Wednesday, shouting at her and asking the Democrat why she supports Antifa and Black Lives Matter, which Greene has falsely labeled "terrorist" groups.
