Biden marks one year in office. How's he doing?

Thursday marks the one-year anniversary of President Joe Biden being sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.

KCBS Radio's Doug Sovern, host of "The State of California," joined "Bay Current" on Thursday to discuss the president's latest news conference and his plans to curtail the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

"Biden says he doesn't believe the polls, but his approval rating is as low as 44%, which is the lowest of any president not named Donald Trump since we have been polling," Sovern explained. "He knows that his message is not being heard and that he hasn’t been an effective messenger and he wanted to own up to that."

Despite the president's ambitious approach during his nearly two-hour press conference on Wednesday, critics still point to his downfalls in the last year – including his tactics in pulling troops out of the Middle East.

"People see failures in Afghanistan, they see high inflation, and they are frustrated that COVID is still with us," Sovern said. "I think Biden is trying to reorient the public's way of thinking because he has actually done a lot." Biden's plan in the next few months is to lobby his administration's goals to the American public and maintain strong messaging abroad.
