In this special series, KCBS Radio's Jim Taylor is spending two weeks traversing the country to talk to voters ahead of one of the most divisive elections of our time.
The weekend temporarily brought this cross-country road trip to a halt after a high plains snowstorm forced the complete shutdown of I-80 in Nebraska.
When the weekend started it was 82 degrees in Iowa, but Monday saw temperatures drop three degrees below zero.
A highlight of the trip through Iowa was the Iowa 80 Truckstop, the largest truck stop in the world.
“I know everywhere we go we see lots and lots and lots of Trump signs,” said Trixie, a truck driver who has spent quite a bit of time this year driving cross country. “We were in the southern part of Kentucky earlier this year and they were all over there, huge booths of people selling signs and shirts and hats and flags and all kinds of paraphernalia, and absolutely zero of anything for Biden.”
When asked if she thought it was interesting to see just how deeply red some parts of the country are, she responded, “No, I don’t find that interesting. I find it normal.”
The unofficial KCBS Radio highway sign count found more of a three-way tie between Trump, Biden and Jesus.
There was no lack of support for various Republican candidates in Nebraska, but they seemed to stand alone with fewer signs endorsing the president.
