According to Congressman Ro Khanna, who represents Santa Clara County, the chaos in Ukraine hits close to home for many South Bay residents who have personal and familial connections to the area.
"And that makes the crisis, and the horrific images all the more acute," he said.

As a result, because of the South Bay's large Ukrainian population, it has become a major center of fundraising efforts in support of Ukraine.
On Monday, Khanna met with the Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco, Dmytro Kushneruk, to discuss other ways the area can continue supporting the country.
"Our community here in Silicon Valley – they're very active, they're the ones who actually organize pro-Ukrainian rallies throughout the Bay Area," said Kushneruk. "And that's why all these huge financial fundraising efforts are happening here."
Kushneruk noted that the number of tech companies that have withdrawn from Russia has helped the Ukainian cause.
Khanna spoke in favor of continued military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, the ultimate goal being, "We need to get a ceasefire, we need to work towards ending the conflict and we need to continue to stand strongly with the Ukrainian people."
