The 6.4 magnitude quake hit shortly after 2:30 a.m. this morning. Officials revealed that two people had died as a result of medical emergencies during or just after the earthquake and approximately 17 others were injured.
One death was caused by a heart attack while the other cause of death was not released. "There was a 72-year-old and an 82-year-old individual who did not get timely medical care because their emergency happened at the moment of the earthquake and so EMS could not get there in time and could not deliver them to the proper medical facility," a spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said during a press conference.
