The court said they located the man around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday with a knife, handgun, and pepper spray not far from Kavanaugh’s Maryland home outside Washington, D.C. Police alleged that while the man was detained, he admitted to plotting to kill the Supreme Court justice, NBC News reported.

“The man was armed and made threats against Justice Kavanaugh,” a statement read.

The Washington Post first reported the arrest, citing law enforcement sources.

The man was angry with the leaked draft opinion suggesting the high court could overturn the Roe v. Wade abortion decision, the Post said. Sources also reportedly told the paper the man was upset with the recent spate of mass shootings.

Sen. Mitch McConnell (K-Ky.) called on Congressional Democrats to pass the SCOTUS security bill (officially the Supreme Court Police Parity Act of 2022), citing the Wednesday morning arrest.

“House Democrats must pass this bill, and they need to do it today," McConnell said on the Senate floor late Wednesday morning. "No more fiddling around with this. They need to pass it today … before the sun sets.”
