Authorities have upped the death toll to six people in the fiery crash of a small business jet near Lake Tahoe on Monday afternoon.
The jet went down while trying to land at Truckee Tahoe Airport.
Officials initially believe three people died in the crash but have since confirmed that six people were on board. A spokesman for the Nevada County Sheriff's Office told the San Francisco Chronicle they are using DNA evidence to confirm the identities of the dead.
"This is a slow process," Spokesman Andrew Trygg told the paper. "Once names are available we will be sure to release them to the media."
Nobody on the ground was hurt.
Two National Transportation Safety Board investigators are on scene reviewing the crash. The flight originated from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and crashed into a wooded area near the Truckee’s Ponderosa Golf Course along Reynolds Way.
