The Plumas National Forest Service issued a forest closure over the Beckwourth Fire Complex and Beckwourth Ranger District Thursday afternoon.
The Beckwourth Complex Fire includes two fires – the Sugar Fire has burned 11,700 acres and is at 20% containment and the Dotta Fire has blazed about 670 acres and is at 48% containment.
"This order is being implemented to provide for public safety during emergency circumstances related to ongoing wildfires and extreme fire danger," the Forest Service said in a statement on their Facebook page.
The forest closure will be in effect from July 8 through August 1.
Mandatory evacuations have been ordered, but these have been changing rapidly. Currently there are evacuations around Dooley, Big Cove, Frenchman Cove, Frenchmen Village and Frenchman Lake.
An evacuation center has been set up at Portola Baptist Church at 171 Gulling Street in Portola.
Concern has heightened over the heat warning in Northern California for the next few days.
