Miguel Anthony Rendon was kidnapped in Tijuana, Mexico in 2020 when he went across the border from San Diego on a surprise visit, said the outlet.
Now, his mother, Emma Carolina Medrano Gallardo, is reporting that the FBI informed her that Rendon’s body had been found and was delivered back to San Diego a month ago, according to the outlet.
Medrano Gallardo, who now lives in San Diego, was living in Tijuana in May 2020 when her son disappeared. He was on his way to see her, and his girlfriend at the time.
She was contacted by kidnappers, who demanded money. A subsequent video call showed proof, with her son beaten and tied up.
Her ex-husband delivered some money she'd collected at the border, while Medrano Gallardo was instructed to wait for her son’s return elsewhere.
But he never arrived.
"Hopefully there is justice, so they don’t get to do this to anyone else or other kids," she said, as reported by the outlet.
Now that his body has been returned, a donation page has been set up on GoFundMe for the funeral.
"Anthony was a pillar in his home, constantly showing love for his mother and only wanting the best for his siblings," wrote Medrano Gallardo in the page’s description. "A bright, funny, kind, innocent, loving, young 19 year old soul."
