SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A McDonald's in Central California is being investigated after disturbing videos and photos surfaced last week revealing unsanitary conditions — including rats and roaches crawling around food — at the restaurant.

The story was first reported by the Fresno Bee.

The footage, posted to the "Sanger Live" Facebook page on Thursday, was allegedly taken at the McDonald's in Sanger off Academy Avenue. The collection of 12 photos and videos show an array of distressing and filthy images, from dead mice stuck on glue traps in the kitchen, a live mouse running loose around in the kitchen — which happened the same day a health inspection took place, according to an employee in the video — and roaches crawling near food.

The paper reported that the restaurant was closed as of Friday, with a piece of paper taped to the front door simply reading, "Closed due to maintenance."

"We can confirm that claims were filed against the restaurant, and we are aware of the videos circulating that claim to show conditions of the place," a member of the Fresno County Health Division told the Bee. "That is a facility that we do monitor from a health and safety standpoint. We are looking into the situation and cannot comment any further."

It's unclear how long the McDonald's will remain shuttered.

In a statement provided to KCBS Radio, The Fresno County Department of Public Health said officials have "been made aware of the videos and photographs circulating on social media regarding the McDonald's in Sanger off Jensen and Academy Ave. This McDonalds has closed voluntarily to manage and resolve the vermin issue at their restaurant. The FCDPH Environmental Health Division has and will continue to work with the facility to ensure a clean and safe establishment."
