As the infamous Dixie Fire continues its march through Northern California grasslands, officials report that conditions look worse today.
The Dixie Fire reached a sad landmark on Sunday as the second biggest fire incident in California history.
A blanket of smoke shielded the fire from the sun and heat yesterday, keeping growth subdued, but CAL FIRE spokesman Edwin Zuniga said unfortunately that will change today.
"Weather conditions today, the smoke will rise, so the fire is going to see some heat and some wind," he explained, admitting that Sunday is going to be another major test for firefighters.
Zunikas told KCBS Radio that crews have resources on the fire lines and they’re trying to stay ahead of the flames. With the smoke layer lifting, there is a silver lining: Firefighters will be able to get water dropping planes up into the skies.
The fire has already ravaged 700 square miles of wild lands in Butte, Plumas, Tehama and Lassen counties.
