SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A cluster of fires burning through Humboldt and Trinity counties has grown to more than 10,000 acres with 0% containment, prompting evacuations throughout the region.

The Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire ignited Friday at 9:44 p.m. in the Willow Creek area. It was initially made up of 12 different fires caused by lightning strikes in the Six Rivers National Forest, but fire crews were able to suppress the blaze, leaving eight active wildfires.
In five days, the fire has grown to 10,781 acres, CAL FIRE reported Wednesday morning.
On Saturday, the fire burned equipment and two crew transportation vehicles while the firefighters were away. Luckily, no one was injured. The two vehicles belonged to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and were parked when they were hit by flames.
42 crews made up of 1,245 personnel have been assigned Six Rivers, along with 67 engines, six helicopters, 17 dozers and 16 water tenders.
The fire is currently threatening communities along the Trinity River. Of the eight, five main fires are burning north and south of Highway 299. According to fire authorities, the primary areas of focus are the communities along the 299 corridor, Waterman Ridge, Friday Ridge Road and Ammon Ridge.
Evacuations remain around Willow Creek, Friday Ridge, Salyer and Trinity Village, and authorities warned that further fire growth could impact residences along Route 1 road.
