People who receive CalFresh will get more money added to their cards this weekend.
The state has been inundated with all kinds of issues lately – mudslides, floods, power outages, and downed trees – to name a few.
These events and others have sent many families to seek help at emergency shelters.
"Last night, nine shelters across five counties – including Humboldt, San Joaquin, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, and Tulare – supported 516 individuals in these shelters," said California’s Social Services Director Kim Johnson.
"And we continue to uplift the message that all are welcome at these sites," she said.
"Over 42,000 people receiving CalFresh who live in 120 zip codes across 28 counties will receive an additional 50% of their regular CalFresh in emergency allotment benefits," said Johnson.
The benefits will be provided automatically, uploaded to the electronic benefit transfer, or EBT, cards, by this weekend.
