One of the worst traffic backups in San Francisco is about to get much worse.
A ramp connecting Westbound I-80 off the Bay Bridge to Northbound Hwy. 101 in San Francisco will be closed this weekend due to construction, Caltrans officials told KCBS Radio.

About a mile of the freeway connector will be closed from 10 p.m. on Friday Sept. 24 to 5 a.m. Monday Sept. 27, Caltrans spokesperson Bart Nay said.
The transportation department is working to replace a guardrail that was badly damaged by a semi-truck last October. Although it isn’t a tough construction job, "it’s almost like heart surgery when you’re working in this area of San Francisco," Nay said.
At peak rush hour, the exit can see up to 2,000 vehicles per hour, making it one of the most densely populated traffic areas in the bay. Drivers should expect delays this weekend and plan accordingly using designated detours. "We’re advising folks to use the 9th St. exit to the Civic Center and to also use 511.org and Caltrans quick maps," Nay said.
Capping off San Francisco’s "Leather Pride Week," the Folsom Street Fair, which can draw up to 200,000 visitors, is scheduled for Sunday. Nay advised that attendees use the designated detours as the scheduled construction may make commuting to the SOMA district difficult.
