Everyone in California age 50 and older is now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine, but can supply and appointment availability keep pace with demand?

In the now eligible category is Gov. Gavin Newsom, who received a vaccine Thursday in Los Angeles.

"So, no more constraints, only limitation [has] been supply, more supply coming, bright light at the end of the tunnel," Gov. Newsom said.

Future supplies of Johnson and Johnson’s vaccine could be impacted by a manufacturing error in Baltimore, which saw millions of doses go to waste.

Still, Stanford Health Care Infectious Disease Control Physician Dr. Dean Winslow remains optimistic.

"So, I think we’re going to be in good shape," he told KCBS Radio. "There may be some individuals [who are] going to have to wait three weeks after they sign up, as to the large number of people over 50. And then, very soon, even a larger number of people over age 16."

Vaccination appointments though, remain elusive.

KCBS Radio’s Tim Ryan found appointments at CVS Pharmacies in Chico, Fresno and Bakersfield, but nothing close to home. Walgreens told him there were no appointments available within 25 miles for the next five days.
