SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Going to Disneyland isn't as easy, or cheap, as it used to be.

Fares at the Southern California theme park were raised again on Tuesday morning, with prices increasing by as much as 9% for single-day tickets and 11% for parking. In addition, Genie Plus – the service that allows patrons to skip long lines at popular rides and attractions – prices will surge by 25%.

"Everything is kind of pay to play at Disneyland," Jessica Sanders, founder of The Happiest Blog On Earth, which she created to help people plan Disney vacations, told KCBS Radio. "When they increase prices, we saw ticket prices increase, we saw Genie Plus, parking – all of those things are hidden under the umbrella of a ticket increase."

Despite the new price hikes, which come just a year after the last daily ticket price increases, Sanders said there still are ways to make the most of the money you spend on a trip to the Anaheim resort, such as buying multi-day tickets.

"Disney wants you to come and stay and have a longer vacation," she explained. "So if you’re going for one day, you’re going to be paying nearly $200 depending on the days that you go. And you could pay about $50 more to go for multiple days."

Disney trips in recent years have become more involved than simply deciding to hop in the car or catch a quick flight.

That's especially true for multi-day trips, which require more planning since Disneyland introduced a mandatory reservation system after reopening from its year-long pandemic closure in 2021.

"Your theme park reservations, you will book those 130 days out, so buy your tickets now, have those ready when your reservation days open and snag exactly what you want," Sanders said. "You're going to want to start planning further in advanced than you're used to, but they do still have openings for the holiday kick off in early November to December. But, Disneyland Resort and Hotels are open for booking all of 2023."

Sanders also notes that there are discount tickets available on her blog for a limited time.
