The former fiancé and radio producer for recall gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder is detailing the couple's short-lived engagement, accusing the Republican of waving a gun at her while high on marijuana.

Alexandra Datig told POLITICO that she broke up with Elder following the incident in 2015. She claimed it happened when the pair were in a heated conversation, alleging Elder walked over to a nightstand, took out the gun and checked to make sure it was loaded.

"He wanted to make sure I saw that he had it," she told the publication.

Datig said she regards the event as the "culmination of a series of humiliating disputes that made her fearful for her safety and her ability to maintain her sobriety." Her allegations include Elder's "repeated demands" she get a tattoo that said "Larry's Girl" to "show her devotion to him."

Datig said she met Elder at a party at the Playboy Mansion in the early 2000s.

The claim comes as Elder has gained momentum and campaign funds among GOP candidates in the recall to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom. He's the leading Republican in many polls, some showing him up by double digits.

Datig has given former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer her endorsement.

Earlier this week, Falcouner made headlines in targeting Elder during a gubernatorial debate that he wasn't present for, using an expletive to describe Elder's written belief that employers should be able to ask women if and when they plan to get pregnant.

Elder did not respond to requests for comments by POLITICO, however did respond to Datig's allegations via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

"People do not get into public life precisely because of this type of politics of personal destruction," Elder tweeted. "I am not going to dignify this with a response – it's beneath me."
