A large explosion has rocked a neighborhood in Ontario, caused by a large cache of fireworks, resulting in a fire.

The Ontario Fire Chief has just confirmed that two people were killed in that blast.

The explosion was caused by a large amount of fireworks that had been stored on a property.

KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero is on the scene, where the fire chief has just wrapped up a news conference.

On Tuesday afternoon, the City of Ontario also tweeted out more writing "Considering that there may be unexploded fireworks on the ground, @OntarioPDand @OntarioFireDept are requesting that residents in the immediate area evacuate/shelter in place while personnel attempt to collect potentially hazardous materials off the ground."

Firefighters and police are on the scene in the area of Fern Avenue Francis Street.

There are reports of damage to a number of homes. KNX 1070 News had gotten numerous calls about the explosion which gave off a huge plume of smoke.

The City of Ontario responded on Twitter writing "We are aware of the loud explosion that was heard recently. The Ontario Police Department and the Ontario Fire Department are investigating it. Please stay clear of the area."

Dan Bell with the city of Ontario tells CBS/K-CAL 9 it's unclear what ignited the fireworks. "

"At this time it looks like there was a large cache of fireworks being stored at the location. And once those ignited, they started exploding and started the structure fire that the units are fighting right now," Bell says.

There's no word if anyone got hurt or if anyone was inside the home at the time.

Bell says it doesn't look like any other homes are impacted but firefighters are looking into that.

People in the area reported hearing and feeling the explosion and they say they also heard what sounded like fireworks going off.

People responded to the city on Twitter with videos of the explosion.

This story is developing.
