Parts of the Bay Area and beyond are under a Red Flag Warning, as high temperatures coupled with dry conditions and gusty winds pose a significant threat of wildfire and the state experiences conditions usually not seen until the summer months.

The Red Flag Warning runs through Tuesday afternoon across the Northern Region, including places like the Sacramento Valley, Shasta County down to the East Side of Santa Clara County, and the North Bay in places like Fairfield and Vacaville.

Cecile Juliette is a CAL FIRE spokesperson for the San Mateo-Santa Cruz region and she told KCBS Radio that while those two counties are not impacted by the Red Flag Warning, conditions are an indicator of what is occurring across the region.

"Locally, in San Mateo County, we took another field sampling recently and the county had little to no fuel moisture recovery over the dry winter that we just had, so we are very dry," she said.

With the warming trend and heavy wind gusts expected across parts of Northern California, Juliette said people need to be careful.

"We are at a point now where we would normally be a month or two in advance," she said.

CAL FIRE has suspended all backyard burns without a permit in Santa Cruz County and is asking residents to make sure there is 100 feet of defensible space around their property, which remains the case all across the Bay Area and Northern California.
