The Los Angeles County Superior Court may face fines for alleged violations involving the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cal/OSHA, an organization which protects and improves the health and safety of working men and women in California, found three violations against the court for their pandemic safety practices, the Los Angeles Times reported.

State workplace safety officials are planning to fine the LA Court for $25,000 after the system resumed many in-person proceedings in the final months of 2020.

In November to December of 2020, Los Angeles County reported up to 10,000 new cases daily.

An estimated 16 interpreters were exposed to COVID-19 during that time. One interpreter died in January 2021 as well as two other court employees. A second interpreter died in February.

The Los Angeles County Superior Court disputes the violations and plans to appeal.
